Dr Siming You was invited to give a talk at the 2023 IFT-EFFoST International Nonthermal Processing Workshop & Short Course , taking place from October 15-17, 2023, at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, USA. Dr You presented the life cycle assessment of waste management in Glasgow and our recent research about the design of decentralised integrated anaerobic digestion and heat pump system to co-treat sewage sludge from wastewater treatment and food waste. This annual event brought together ~80 well established researchers and industrial practitioners working on non-thermal processing of food. Sustainability is the topic of this event this year.

Dr You also visited the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory, at the University of Minnesota as hosted by Dr Judy Yang, and learnt about the laboratory’s recent research on the modelling and experiments of biofilm systems at different scales. The laboratory located next to Saint Anthony Falls has unique capability to use the hydraulic head from the waterfall for fluid mechanics experiments.
