New publication – Microbial Stratification and DOM Removal in Drinking Water Biofilters: Implications for Enhanced Performance

,

We are thrilled to share our latest paper published in Water Research! In this study, we examined the transformation of DOM fractions by microbial communities at different depths of a biofilter. Our findings revealed that bottom communities are better suited to utilizing more complex organic carbon fractions, likely due to their adaptation. This opens up exciting possibilities for improving biofiltration systems through alternative operating strategies.

This work was a collaboration with Ryan Pereira at the Lyell Centre, led by Xiang S. within the Decentralised Water Technologies Project, supported by RAEng, EbNet, and EPSRC.
